Nestle Butterfingers have launched a vast range of viral’s over the past few years, proving popular to the youtube audience who often respond to their competitions and create their own viral retorts.

The defense league features Erik Estrada, Lou Ferrigno, Charisma Carpenter and Sir Mix-a-lot. All are trying to protect your Butterfingers with the slogan, “Nobodies gonna lay a finger on my Butterfinger!”.

Butterfingers have proven to provide some pretty humorous virals, and this one can certainly make it up there after appearing in the viral charts with 1.8 million views in just over a month and counting.

This is a golden oldie one, but a real classic and something I have only recently discovered.

First appearing in 2009 this viral was set out to prove that you don’t need to necessarily have a short, snappy production to create a viral masterpiece. This 12 minute short film is intended to keep you engaged with the plot, relate your story to the characters and keeps your intention focussed on discovering how the tale ends.

A very clever little film and an interesting twist to the viral video world and what is traditionally the “norm”. 4.6 million views suggests a great interest too. Well done Schweppes and well done Director Patrick Hughes.

UJAM takes singing in the shower to incredible new heights. For those of you who cant stop getting that melody out of your heads, or cant stop singing it in general….you need to try UJAM!

What a piece of software this sounds like. Tested by the boys over at TechCrunch this really looks like an instant success.

Founded by Hans Zimmer and Pharrell Williams, essentially UJAM turns your singing (attempts), humming, whistling and just about anything you can make a tune out of, into a real song! The beauty of this is it turns people who have songs in the heads, or perhaps lyrics and melodies, into composers…without the need for a specialist team of producers to get your music off the ground.

The full article and test video is available from Tech Crunch here. We are looking forward to this one being launched to the public soon!

This is not a fake, this a genuine article….THE Kung Fu Bear.

Filmed at Hiroshima Zoo, this is not a marketing viral video trying to promote a product but simply one of the original forms of viral videos; a natural home movie that has been shared across an array of social media platforms for world wide exposure.

Discovered today (25th May 2010) this viral has already had quarter or a million views…and is only just getting started.

This is a prime example of a quality home video that has spread like wildfire over the viral highway.

Enjoy…I give you…Rupert “The Kung Fu” Bear:

Im a sucker for stop motion videos, they are very eye catching and memorable if they are done correctly. I remember the first ever stop motion video I saw on youtube was a Mario Kart parody done by some final year students at the University campus – it was epic. It really got me thinking about all the possibilities you can do with stop motion.

This little number by Sony has made a dramatic entry into the viral world with almost 1.5 million views in less than a month. More amazing is that it took the team only 3 weeks to make, which is highly impressive since they travelled from London – Cairo – Mumbay – Hong Kong – Tokyo – San Francisco – New York  then back to London.

Simple stuff essentially, but thousands of pictures and a lot of editing no doubt. All worth while though, job well done Sony and a nice piece by Director/Film coordinator Alex Profit.

One on the rise, Nike’s Free Running shoe range.

I cant believe at the end that actually have to say “This shoe will not play music if bent or twisted” ….

Interesting twist on the shoe market though

This is a genius little video that is being talked about all over Twitter and Youtube. The Toyota Sienna “Swagger Wagon” promotes to the minivan masses with a very clever rap parody, made even more funny by the Sienna family parents.

It has a similar vibe to The Lonely Islands “Im on a boat” viral that launched their debut album with T-Pain, but it has successfully appealed to the audience and become an instant video success that has made it into to the top 10 viral chart for May 2010.

Take a look for yourself…

I cant work out if this guy has far too much time on his hands to become an absolute God at this…Or if its just straight up impressive regardless of how bizarre a skill it is. Either way Im a little jealous, and Im sure you will all agree…its pretty epic in its own unique way.

There is a bit of a debate to whether it is fake or not…I imagine that murmur of “Its a FAKE” is by a smaller group of individuals who cant quite believe the sheer deadly attributes this guy has, armed only with a pack of business cards. I know I cant.

This video has led me to practice a few throws myself, but also to take a closer look at the Samsung HD camcorder in the viral. In my opinion its a bit of a winner this one, great content and good promotions. Nearly 2 million people agree too

This viral caught my eye in a monthly top 10 viral video chart. Its been around since the end of March 2010 now, but a definate success for viral agency The Viral Factory.

Take a look for yourself, I guarantee you will try and fling a card at some unfeasible target…

The following blog post is an edited version of an email I sent to a client a couple of months ago explaining the basic concepts behind viral marketing. The client was asking if they could use such a campaign for their particular project, which was going to be an online magazine.  I have removed all project and person specific references and retained the content that talks about what viral marketing is, and some of the basics on how to start a low-budget viral campaign. I thought it would be a good way of starting this blog off and would make a fitting first post. I hope some one, some where out there finds it useful!
